Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has postponed his scheduled visit to Bogra on March 10, where he was due to attend a ‘Family Card’ distribution programme.

Bogra Deputy Commissioner Taufiqur Rahman confirmed the cancellation on Monday (March 2) night. Officials said the visit was called off in view of the upcoming by-election in the constituency.

In the 13th National Parliament election, Tarique Rahman was elected from Bogra-6 (Sadar) and Dhaka-17 constituencies. As per electoral rules, he vacated the Bogra-6 seat before taking oath, retaining the Dhaka-17 seat.

The Bangladesh Election Commission has scheduled a by-election in Bogra-6 for April 9.

Rezaul Karim Badsha, president of the district unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been nominated as the party’s candidate for the by-election.
