A day-long training on rubric-based grading was held at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU/GAU) on Tuesday to enhance transparency and fairness in student evaluations.
Organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the session began at 10 am in the university’s seminar room. The primary objective was to transition toward a standardized, student-centered assessment system based on clear qualitative criteria.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. GKM Mostafizur Rahman attended as the chief guest. In his address, he noted that the university’s grading system is increasingly modern and standardized compared to other institutions. "Applying this training in the classroom will ensure fair standards for our students," the VC said, adding that teachers must balance quality instruction with research excellence.
The program, presided over by IQAC Director Professor Dr. Nasreen Akhter Ivy, featured Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Mainul Haque and Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Shafiul Islam Afrad as special guests.
Dr. Ivy emphasized that predetermined grading criteria make the evaluation process more accountable and trustworthy. During the technical sessions, experts including Professor Dr. Sheikh Shamim Hasan and Professor Dr. Md. Motahar Hossain guided lecturers and assistant professors on formulating rubrics, setting criteria, and practical application.
The training concluded with an interactive Q&A session where faculty members shared insights on implementing these standards across departments.
