The Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources has dismissed media reports claiming the U.S. granted Bangladesh a 60-day exemption to import Russian fuel, calling the information "baseless."
In a press release issued on Friday (April 17), the Energy and Mineral Resources Division clarified that no authorized official had provided such information to any media outlet. The ministry denied reports suggesting a plan to import 10 million tonnes of diesel from Russia between April 11 and June 9.
"The department has no official communication or updated information regarding a U.S. exemption or any proposal to purchase 10 million tonnes of diesel from Russia," the statement read.
The ministry warned that publishing such sensitive, unverified information could lead to national and international confusion regarding Bangladesh’s energy policy.
It urged media outlets to refrain from attributing "unapproved information" to government officials.
