Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of BNP activist Mohammad Kausar Zaman Bablu in Raozan, Chittagong. The arrestees are Md. Shafi (39) and Md. Sumon (33).
The duo was apprehended from the Purba Raozan area on Saturday night. According to police records, 34-year-old Bablu was shot dead on Friday night near the BNO Brickfield in the Alikhil Khamartila area of Raozan Municipality. Officials cited "prior enmity" as the motive for the attack.
The victim's father, Abul Kalam, subsequently filed a case at Raozan Police Station, naming 12 identified individuals and several unidentified suspects.
Md. Russell, Additional Superintendent of Police (Industrial Area and DB), confirmed that Shafi and Sumon—the third and fifth accused in the case, respectively—were tracked down using eyewitness accounts and digital surveillance.
"Operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover the firearms used in the killing," ASP Russell stated. Police investigations also suggest the involvement of a known local criminal, Raihan, in the planning and execution of the murder.
