A segment of the Iranian delegation that briefly returned to Tehran is expected to rejoin talks in Pakistan on Sunday night. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is also scheduled to visit Pakistan after completing his trip to Oman, followed by a planned visit to Russia, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
Earlier, Araghchi held meetings in Islamabad on Saturday with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir. The discussions focused on regional developments and bilateral relations.
Iran has stated that strengthening coordination with regional countries remains a key priority. However, Tehran is not currently prepared for direct face-to-face talks with the United States, describing Washington’s stance as “extremist” and some of its demands as unacceptable.
Pakistan has said it remains willing to continue its mediation efforts, keeping the door open for future dialogue despite limited progress so far.
Sources indicate that Araghchi may return to Islamabad on Sunday evening after his visit to Oman for further discussions. Parts of his delegation have already traveled back to Tehran for consultations and may rejoin the talks later.
Meanwhile, security barricades in Islamabad have been removed, and normal traffic has resumed in the capital. However, direct Iran–US talks remain on hold.
