Iran is not currently holding direct negotiations with the United States. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said though messages are being exchanged through intermediaries. Speaking on the state of Iran-US relations, Araghchi said several countries are working to create conditions for talks to resume.
However, he stressed that negotiations cannot restart until Washington ends its violations of the Islamabad memorandum of understanding and takes corrective steps to address the breaches it has committed.
Araghchi also addressed separate talks with Oman, clarifying that these discussions concern establishing a new maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz, rather than reopening the strait itself. He said existing routes would eventually be replaced with new ones under the plan being discussed with Muscat.
"Talks with Oman do not mean the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened" he said, adding that while an agreement on the new route may be reached, actually reopening the strait depends on separate conditions being communicated through intermediaries.
The remarks offer insight into the delicate, indirect diplomatic channels currently shaping Iran-US relations, as both sides appear to be avoiding direct engagement while leaving room for future dialogue through third parties.
