


Police arrested 524 people across various areas of all 11 districts under the Chattogram Range during a 24-hour operation targeting drugs and other criminal cases.
Chattogram Range Police provided the information regarding the operation conducted from Saturday to Sunday.
Chattogram Range DIG Abdul Quddus Chowdhury said 117 of those arrested were detained in regular cases, while 73 were arrested in connection with previous cases. Another 33 were arrested under Section 34 of the Police Act, four under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and 36 under Section 151 of the CrPC and other laws.
Police also arrested 112 people under arrest warrants in various cases and 11 others under warrants related to court-imposed sentences.
A total of 138 people were arrested during anti-drug operations. Of them, 51 were alleged drug dealers, two were drug carriers and 136 were drug users. The number of drug dealers is also included in the figures for regular and other cases.
During the operation, police recovered 62,932 yaba tablets, 34 kg 314 grams of cannabis, 72 bottles of foreign liquor, 10 litres of locally produced liquor, three bottles of beer, 25 bottles of Skaf syrup and 107 tapentadol tablets, according to the DIG.
A total of 37 cases were filed over the recovery of the drugs.
Meanwhile, mobile courts sentenced 87 people to different terms of imprisonment during the anti-drug campaign. The courts also collected fines totalling Tk 9,900.
