Rabiul Islam Sheikh, alias Rabi (55) a tea stall owner in Alfadanga, Faridpur was hacked to death on Saturday night in just two and a half months after his nephew was killed in the same village feud. Three others accompanying him were also injured in the attack.
The incident occurred around 10:30 PM near Mala Government Primary School on the Kashiani-Alfadanga road. Rabi, son of Sattar Sheikh from Borobhag village was returning home after closing his tea stall in Kashiani Sadar market when armed attackers ambushed the group. He died at the scene from severe injuries.
The injured Moktar Biswas (55), Hridoy Sheikh (21), and Liton Khan (40) were admitted to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex with Biswas reported in critical condition.
The attack follows the June 26 murder of Rabi's nephew, Sumon Sheikh (24), a college student who was hacked to death near his home in the same village. Locals say a four-year-long territorial feud between two factions in Borobhag has fueled repeated clashes, attacks and legal cases. Sumon's murder was allegedly linked to this ongoing conflict and tensions escalated further after several accused in his case were recently released on bail.
Police have not yet confirmed any connection between those released on bail and Rabi's killing, saying the matter remains under investigation.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Masuduzzaman confirmed police reached the scene promptly and are working to identify those responsible.
With both uncle and nephew killed within months in the same feud the fear has gripped Borobhag village with prompting increased police presence to prevent further violence.
