Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi discussed escalating regional tensions with Pakistan's Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir during a phone call on Thursday.
According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Araghchi strongly condemned recent US military strikes on Iranian territory. He described the attacks as a direct violation of the UN Charter and a clear breach of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Araghchi criticized US officials for disregarding the peace agreement, calling it evidence of Washington's "warmongering policies." He warned against further US military "adventurism," asserting the unwavering resolve of Iran's armed forces to defend the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity. IRNA’s report did not disclose Field Marshal Munir's remarks during the conversation.
This high-level diplomatic exchange follows a renewed military confrontation between Tehran and Washington. Tensions flared over the past two days in retaliation to alleged Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Previously, on June 17, Pakistan successfully brokered a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, aiming to halt hostilities and establish a lasting peace agreement. However, the fragile truce collapsed on Wednesday when US President Donald Trump declared the agreement "over" immediately triggering a fresh wave of military strikes in the region.
