Detective Branch (DB) police arrested a man in a raid in Kumilli village under Gayeshpur union of Pabna Sadar and recovered illegal firearms and ammunition.
The raid was conducted on Saturday, while details were shared at a press briefing held in front of the Superintendent of Police’s office on Sunday afternoon.
The arrested individual is Afzal Hossain (60), a resident of Kumilli village.
According to district DB police, they received confidential information that Afzal had long been involved in storing, manufacturing, and trading illegal firearms. Acting on the tip-off, a DB team carried out a raid in the village on Saturday afternoon.
Police said Afzal attempted to flee upon seeing the team but was detained. Based on his information, officers recovered one single-barrel gun, two foreign-made pistols, and four rounds of bullets from his house.
Later, another raid was conducted at his shop in Borhan Market on Rupkatha Road in Pabna including triggers, clips, springs, firing pins, firearm barrels, .22 bore bullets and shells, a gun body, and a drill machine.
During initial interrogation, Afzal failed to produce valid documents for the recovered firearms and equipment. Although his trade license lists sewing machine and airgun repair, police said he was allegedly involved in illegal firearm repair, manufacturing, and trade.
A case has been filed against him under the Arms Act, and he has been handed over to Pabna Sadar Police Station.
