Recommended primary assistant teachers staged a protest at Shahbag on Sunday, demanding immediate issuance of their appointment letters.
The protesters began a procession around 10:00 am from in front of the National Museum. Police stopped them from moving onto the main road, leaving the group gathered at Shahbag where they continued chanting slogans.
At the time of reporting, protesters and police remained in a face-to-face , with tensions visible but no reports of violence.
The demonstrators chanted slogans such as “No more promises, we want implementation,” “We want to go to classrooms, students are waiting,” and “We will not return without appointment letters.”
Protesters said they were recommended for the posts about two and a half months ago but have yet to receive appointment letters or any official update.
They vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met, alleging that the issuance of appointment letters has been deliberately delayed.
