As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, the markets in Bheramara, Kushtia, have transformed into a sea of shoppers. From early morning until late at night, crowds are overflowing at cosmetics, footwear, and clothing stores, with residents of all ages rushing to complete their festive shopping.
Major hubs, including Dakbanglo Market, Munu Doctor Market, and the Rail Bazaar Banik Samity Market, are experiencing a massive surge in foot traffic. Similar scenes are reported across suburban areas like Golapnagar, Bahadur Pur, and Juniadah Bazaar.
"The crowds began surging after the 20th of Ramadan," said Faizul Islam Milon, owner of Satkahon Readymade Clothing. "Sales have been climbing steadily for a week, and we expect the peak in these final days." Shoe merchant Joy added that this year’s sales have notably surpassed previous years.
For many, like office worker Mostaq Ahmed, the holiday provided the first real opportunity to shop. "I couldn't come earlier due to my schedule. While I'm happy to shop, the traffic congestion in the city has increased significantly due to the market rush," he noted.
A visit to the local markets reveals a vibrant scene: colorful children’s frocks, gowns, and Punjabis line the storefronts. Shopkeepers report a high demand for Indian fabrics featuring lace, cotton, and stone work. Interestingly, shoppers are favoring comfortable cotton outfits over heavily embellished pieces this year.
With footwear, three-piece suits, and children’s wear topping the sales charts, Bheramara's retailers are working around the clock to meet the holiday demand.
