Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman has reaffirmed Bangladesh's steadfast commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment at the global stage.
Addressing the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) at the UN Headquarters on Tuesday (March 17), the Foreign Minister emphasized that ensuring justice for women and girls remains a top national priority. He reiterated the country's dedication to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Beijing Declaration.
"Justice must be accessible to all women and girls, regardless of identity or socio-economic status," Dr. Rahman stated. He called for an environment where legal protection is available without fear or structural obstacles.
Highlighting Bangladesh's global contributions, the Foreign Minister noted the significant role of Bangladeshi women in UN peacekeeping operations.
However, he warned that emerging challenges—including climate change, economic instability, conflict, and the digital divide—are creating new barriers, particularly for those in rural and vulnerable communities. To counter these, Bangladesh proposed strengthening justice systems through women's leadership and enhancing international cooperation to combat human trafficking.
The CSW70 session, running from March 9–19, 2026, focuses on ensuring universal access to justice for women and girls.
