Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman left Dhaka for Russia on Sunday morning, beginning a three-day official visit. He is scheduled to hold talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Monday.
Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir is accompanying the Foreign Minister, according to a senior Foreign Ministry official. While Moscow had announced the June 7-9 visit earlier, Dhaka officially confirmed the trip only after his departure.
This marks Dr. Rahman’s first official overseas visit since his recent election as President of the 81st UN General Assembly (UNGA).
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Monday's talks will focus on current bilateral and international issues. “A special emphasis will be placed on our interaction at the UN, as Khalilur Rahman has been elected President of the 81st Session of the UNGA,” she noted.
According to the Russian Embassy in Dhaka, the itinerary also includes meetings with senior officials from the Federation Council, the Rosatom State Corporation, and other key organizations.
Dr. Rahman is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on June 9.
