Iran began the official funeral and burial rites today for two high-ranking officials, Ali Larijani and Gholamreza Soleimani, following their assassination in an Israeli airstrike.
The Iranian government confirmed that all final ceremonies for the leaders will be completed this Wednesday (March 18). Larijani, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and Soleimani, commander of the Basij Force, were killed during a targeted strike on Monday night (March 16). The incident has significantly escalated tensions across the Middle East.
On Tuesday, the Israeli military officially claimed responsibility for the operation. Tehran responded hours later, confirming the deaths and declaring a period of mourning.
Iranian Army Chief of Staff Amir Hatami warned Israel of a "decisive and regrettable" retaliation, stating that the "Zionist regime" would pay a heavy price. In a swift response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intensified missile strikes against Israeli territory.
Tehran reported using advanced ballistic missiles, including the Khorramshahr-4 and Khyber Shekan, to target military and security installations. Israeli emergency services confirmed that at least two people were killed and several others injured when missile debris struck the Tel Aviv district.
The Israeli Health Ministry reported that 192 citizens were hospitalized within the last 24 hours, with four in critical condition. Official data indicates that over 3,700 Israelis have been treated for injuries since the current conflict erupted.
The international community is watching Tehran closely, with deep concerns that military operations may expand further following the conclusion of the burial rites.
