Chandgaon Police have successfully rescued two teenagers trafficked to Malaysia and arrested six members of an international human trafficking syndicate, including the mastermind.
The victims, Sohan (17) and Md. Ismail alias Sagar (16), are residents of the Moulvipukurpar area in Chandgaon. Both worked at a local garage while continuing their studies.
The ordeal began on February 1, when the boys failed to return home from work. Their families initially filed a missing person’s report, but later discovered the teens had been lured and trafficked abroad. On February 26, the guardians filed a formal case under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act.
Under the direction of the Chandgaon Police Officer-in-Charge, investigating officer SI Zayed Abdullah Bin Sarwar launched a coordinated operation. Initial raids in Chattogram led to the arrests of Md. Abdul Kader Mamun and Md. Yasin Arafat. Following their leads, police apprehended Md. Milon in Chandpur and Md. Mostafa in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. Mostafa later provided a confessional statement in court detailing the gang’s operations.
Investigations revealed the syndicate operated in collusion with individuals in Rohingya camps. Following a raid on the Kutupalong camp and sustained tactical pressure from law enforcement, the traffickers were forced to return the teenagers to Bangladesh to evade capture.
On the morning of March 17, police conducted a final raid in the Baraitoli hills of Teknaf. They arrested three Rohingya traffickers—Sab Mia, Shah Alam, and Mohammad Hossain—and safely recovered Sohan and Ismail. The successful operation has brought immense relief to the families and earned widespread public praise.
