Old Woman Allegedly Raped in Gaibandha

A 70-year-old woman was allegedly forcibly raped after being tied up in a deserted turmeric field in Alinagar village, Sadullapur upazila, Gaibandha, on Sunday afternoon (October 19). The accused is identified as Ayub Ali (50), a father of two from the same area, who allegedly saw the woman alone while she was feeding her livestock.

Ayub Ali allegedly tied the victim's hands, feet, and face before taking her to a nearby field and raping her. The victim was rescued by her family and neighbors in a bloody and seriously ill state and was initially admitted to the Sadullapur Health Complex. Due to her critical condition, she was later referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

The alleged rapist, Ayub Ali, fled the village immediately after the incident. Locals stated that Ayub Ali has a history of similar incidents and has been previously fined in local arbitration. The police have confirmed the incident. Swapan Kumar, in-charge of the Dhaperhat Police Investigation Center, stated that the victim's family has filed a written complaint, and police efforts are underway to arrest Ayub Ali promptly.

The Officer-in-Charge of Sadullapur Police Station, Taj Uddin Khandaker, confirmed that the Additional Superintendent of Police visited the scene and has ordered the immediate arrest of the guilty person. The horrific incident has caused a storm of anger and protest in the area, with locals demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the perpetrator.
