


A 60-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a CNG-powered autorickshaw in Kaliganj, Gazipur, while returning home from a trip on Eid day.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening (March 22) near Taiba Petrol Pump in Chuariakhola area of Tumulia Union, along the Tongi–Ghorashal road.
The deceased was identified as Mosammat Zohra Begum (60), daughter of the late Safur Uddin from Amdia Belaid area under Madhabdi police station in Narsingdi.
According to police and local sources, around 40 people had travelled to Gazipur Safari Park from Narsingdi in a reserved bus to celebrate Eid. On their way back, the bus stopped near the petrol pump. Some passengers got down to use nearby facilities.
At that time, Zohra Begum was crossing the road to reboard the bus when a CNG-powered autorickshaw heading towards Tongi hit her. She died on the spot.
After the accident, the driver fled, leaving the vehicle behind.
Kaliganj Police Station Sub-Inspector Riyadul Islam said police recovered the body and seized the autorickshaw. Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the driver. Legal action is being prepared.
