A 70-year-old woman was killed early Saturday (July 4) when a passenger bus lost control and rammed a tractor-lorry into a roadside shop in Gazipur's Kaliganj.
The deceased, Haridasi, was the daughter of Kenu Mandal from the Tumulia area in Ward No. 2 of Kaliganj Municipality.
Police and local sources reported that a Tongi-bound Labiba Paribahan bus lost control near the Boali intersection on the Tongi-Kaliganj road. The bus struck a lorry from behind, pushing it off the road. The lorry subsequently ran over Haridasi, who was standing by the road, before crashing into a nearby shop.
Locals rescued the severely injured woman and rushed her to the Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex. When her condition deteriorated, doctors referred her to Dhaka. She died on the way to the capital at around 8:30 am.
Kaliganj Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Asaduzzaman confirmed that the body has been recovered. Locals seized both the bus and the lorry immediately after the incident.
