Two people were killed and at least five others injured after a minibus collided with a rod-laden truck on the Konabari flyover in Gazipur on the Dhaka–Tangail highway on Sunday evening.
Police said the minibus, operated by Takewa Paribahan and heading towards Chandragrami, lost control while crossing the flyover and crashed into the rear of a speeding truck. The impact crushed the front portion of the bus, killing one passenger on the spot.
Locals quickly rescued the passengers and sent them to nearby hospitals. Another critically injured passenger died on the way to the hospital.
The identities of the two deceased, both men, have not yet been confirmed.
Among the injured, two have been admitted to Konabari Popular Hospital and three to Konabari Central Hospital.
Police and fire service personnel carried out rescue operations and removed the damaged vehicles to restore traffic on the highway.
Sub-Inspector Abdul Hamid of Konabari Police Station said efforts are underway to identify the victims and take legal action. Authorities warned that the death toll may rise.
