A thick blanket of fog covered Faridpur on Sunday morning (March 22), bringing an unusual winter-like atmosphere in the middle of Chaitra.
Since early morning, visibility remained low across the district as fog engulfed fields, roads, and rural areas. The sun was not visible for several hours after dawn, and a mild chill in the air added to the unseasonal weather.
Residents described the scene as similar to a typical winter morning. Daily life continued, with farmers heading to fields and households carrying out routine work, but many noted the weather was unusual for this time of year.
Ashutosh Malo, a farmer from Bhimpur village in Boalmari upazila, said such dense fog is rare in Chaitra. He added that the cold conditions made fieldwork uncomfortable and could harm crops.
Onion farmers are particularly concerned. Excess moisture and prolonged fog can increase the risk of fungal diseases, including leaf rot, which may reduce yields.
According to local meteorological officials, the fog is the result of seasonal temperature fluctuations. Slight drops in nighttime temperature combined with high humidity have led to dense fog formation in the early hours.
Officials said the situation is temporary. Temperatures are expected to rise during the day, clearing the fog. However, similar conditions may persist for the next few days.
Farmers have been advised to monitor their crops closely, especially onions, and take preventive measures against disease.
Local observers say the unusual weather has created both a striking natural scene and concern among farmers about potential crop damage.
