As the Bengali month of Chaitra draws to a close, residents of Khulna’s Paikgachha are witnessing a rare climatic phenomenon. Instead of the expected pre-summer heat, the region has been engulfed in dense fog, reminiscent of a cold Paush morning.
On Saturday morning, the upazila headquarters and surrounding unions were wrapped in a thick white blanket of mist. Visibility dropped significantly, forcing buses and other vehicles to move slowly with headlights on well past dawn.
While days remain sunny, the nights and early mornings have turned unseasonably cool. For several days, locals have been seen wearing light wraps at night to ward off a persistent chill—a stark contrast to the usual sweltering heat associated with late spring in Bangladesh.
Local meteorologists attribute this erratic weather to climate change. High moisture levels in the air combined with sudden temperature fluctuations have triggered this late-season fog. While the mist clears as the sun rises, the "winter-like" atmosphere has become the primary topic of conversation among the surprised locals.
