Police have recovered the hanging body of a housewife in Lohagara of Narail, with her legs found tied with chains—raising suspicion among local residents and law enforcement.
The deceased, Rita Begum (40), was the wife of Rabiul Islam of Erenda village under Kashipur union. Her body was recovered on Monday morning.
According to police and local sources, Rita had reportedly been kept chained in a separate room by her family for some time, allegedly due to claims of mental illness.
Family members said they found her hanging from the ceiling with a scarf tied around her neck early in the morning. Police were later informed and recovered the body from the scene.
The incident has triggered widespread concern locally, with many residents questioning the circumstances of her death. Some neighbours demanded that Rita was mentally sound and alleged that she had been confined without justification.
Abdur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Lohagara Police Station, confirmed that the body has been sent to Narail District Hospital for autopsy.
Police said the exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
Meanwhile, Rita’s husband is currently absconding and could not be reached for comment.
