Police recovered the bodies of a mother and her teenage daughter from their home in Anwara Upazila, Chittagong, late Saturday night. A five-year-old boy was critically injured in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The incident occurred in the Chenamati Barua Para area of Parikoda Union at around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday (June 13).
The victims were identified as Eni Barua, 40, and her 16-year-old daughter, Priyanti Barua. Eni's 5-year-old son, Pias Barua, survived but sustained serious injuries.
The family lives near the Chenamati Barua Para Buddhist Vihar Temple. Sujan Barua, Eni's husband, works as a security guard in Chittagong's Khatunganj area and was not home during the attack.
Neighbor Suravi Barua reported that locals rushed to the house after hearing screams. They found Eni and Pias critically wounded near the doorway, while Priyanti's body was discovered inside the house.
"We tried to take them to the hospital immediately, but Eni died on the spot," Suravi said. Police were notified shortly after.
Sujan Barua suspects the killings may be linked to a financial dispute with a neighbor. He alleged that the attackers might have broken into the house searching for documents related to that transaction.
"I was in the city for work," Sujan said. "My elder brother called me at night, and when I rushed home, everything was already over."
Anwara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Junayet Chowdhury confirmed the recovery of the bodies. "We are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness," he stated. "An investigation is underway, and police operations are ongoing to identify and arrest those involved."
