


Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) welcomed the newly admitted students of the 2025–26 GST cluster admission session through a unique and environmentally conscious initiative With the slogan "One Student, One Tree, One Green Future".
As part of the program, the university presented saplings of its own innovated seedless gab variety, "PSTU Gab-2," to the newly enrolled students and their guardians, promoting environmental conservation and a sustainable green future.
The second day of the freshman reception and orientation program was held in a festive atmosphere at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday (July 29) at the university's TSC Conference Hall. The event began with the university administration welcoming the freshers with flowers, followed by a multimedia presentation highlighting the university's academic and administrative facilities.
The program was chaired by Professor Dr. Nurul Amin, Convener of the Deans' Council. Special guests included Professor Dr. A. B. M. Saiful Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor, and Professor Dr. Mohammad Atikur Rahman, Treasurer. The event was moderated by Dr. Aminul Islam.
During the program, Professor Dr. Md. Masudur Rahman delivered a presentation on the university's academic environment, research activities and the opportunities available for students. Among others, speeches were delivered by Professor Dr. Khokon Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering; Professor Dr. Badiuzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration; Professor Shahidul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Nutrition and Food Science; Professor Md. Jamal Hossain, Registrar and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Professor Abul Bashar Khan, Proctor; Md. Abdur Rahim, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Division and the provosts of various residential halls.
Representing the guardians Alamgir and Shahe Alam spoke at the event, while Sohel Rana Jony, Joy Bhangi, Faria, Saleheen, Afroza, Ikram, Mahin, Maruf and Shishir shared their thoughts on behalf of the students.
In his keynote address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S. M. Hemayet Jahan said, "Your children are now our responsibility. Likewise, the sapling we have presented to you is now your responsibility to nurture. We hope that by the time your child graduates from the university, the tree will have grown and begun to bear fruit for them to enjoy."
He further emphasized that university life is a crucial period for developing character, ethics and leadership qualities. He encouraged students to engage in positive competition and meaningful activities while assuring them that the university administration would always stand by them in support of their welfare.
The orientation program marked the formal beginning of the freshers' university journey. At the same time, the initiative of gifting a tree sapling was widely appreciated for inspiring environmental awareness, love for nature and a commitment to building a sustainable future among the new students.
