The investigation report into the alleged involvement of several teachers of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) in a purported secret campaign to facilitate the return of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh is largely complete, university authorities said.
The names of several PSTU teachers reportedly appeared on a list of 404 teachers from 22 universities allegedly involved in the campaign.
The university administration disclosed the development on Monday (August 31), saying the investigation report would be made public soon after the completion of the remaining formalities.
On August 5, the university Registrar’s Office formed a five-member investigation committee through an official order. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr A B M Saiful Islam was appointed convener, while Treasurer Prof Md Atikur Rahman, Proctor Prof Abul Bashar Khan and Prof Dr Nesar Uddin Ahmed were made members. Registrar Prof Md Jamal Hossain was appointed member secretary of the committee.
Teachers involved in the investigation have already briefed journalists about the progress of the probe. They said the committee was examining various aspects of the matter in addition to the information published in the media, considering the broader scope of the allegations.
PSTU Registrar and member secretary of the investigation committee, Prof Md Jamal Hossain, said, “Our investigation report will be submitted very soon. Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the university’s laws and regulations.”
Pro-Vice-Chancellor and convener of the investigation committee, Prof Dr A B M Saiful Islam, said, “We have completed a substantial part of the investigation and the report will be submitted very soon. We are conducting the investigation on a broader scale. There are many other issues beyond the names that have appeared in the media. We will bring everything to light soon.”
He further said, “At this stage, we cannot disclose much in the interest of the investigation. However, everything will be made public alongside the imposition of disciplinary measures. We are already moving towards that process.”
