Bangladesh PM Pledges Action to Ease Gas Shortage in Industrial Sector

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has pledged to address the country's gas shortage affecting the industrial sector, following a meeting with leaders of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA).

Speaking after Wednesday's meeting at the Secretariat, BTMA President Shawkat Aziz Russell said the industry's gas crisis stemmed from delays in taking timely policy decisions. He said the prime minister acknowledged the issue and assured business leaders that the government would take the necessary steps to resolve it.

Russell added that the prime minister is seeking a clearer understanding of the challenges facing Bangladesh's textile industry and that entrepreneurs are encouraged by the government's willingness to engage with the sector.

The government has asked manufacturers to submit detailed reports identifying factories that have fully or partially suspended operations because of gas shortages, along with the specific support they require.

Officials said the information will be used to assess the scale of the disruption and develop targeted measures to help affected businesses restore production.
