The National Citizen Party (NCP) has accused Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists of attacking its Habiganj march on Tuesday evening, leaving several party leaders and journalists injured.

According to Habiganj Sadar Police Chief Zahid Hossain, the clash erupted near the local Town Hall around 7:00 pm. During the unrest, several journalists' vehicles were vandalized.

Police intervened to rescue NCP's Chief Organiser (North) Sarjis Alam and Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary after they were surrounded by protesters. Officers safely escorted the leaders to the local circuit house.

NCP officials allege the attack targeted Sarjis and Nasiruddin’s motorcade as they were leaving a party rally. The ensuing violence left multiple activists and media personnel injured and briefly confined to the area.

In response, Chhatra Dal activists claimed the confrontation was provoked. They stated that NCP speakers at the rally had explicitly branded Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders as a "force of thugs," triggering widespread outrage among JCD members.

Police Chief Hossain confirmed that tensions boiled over when Chhatra Dal held a counter-demonstration immediately following the NCP march, which necessitated the police rescue operation to restore order.
