


Professor Dr. Ruma officially assumed the role of Pro-Vice Chancellor (Pro-VC) at the Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET). Dr. Ruma becoming the first woman to hold this position in the institution's history.
Her four-year appointment was confirmed through a Ministry of Education notification, signed by Kazi Noor Islam issued under the order of the President.
Dr. Ruma is currently a professor and the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at DUET. Her academic journey began at the same university, where she secured first-class honors in her bachelor's degree in 2005 before joining as a lecturer in 2006. She later earned a master’s degree with distinction from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 2008 and completed her PhD at Japan's Kumamoto University in 2014.
Throughout her career, she has held several key administrative roles at DUET including Head of the EEE Department and Provost of the Madame Curie Hall. An expert in pulsed power and high-voltage engineering, Dr. Ruma has an extensive portfolio of research publications and serves as an academic expert member for various universities across the country.
Her historic appointment marks a significant milestone for women's leadership in Bangladesh's higher education sector reflecting ongoing efforts to boost women's participation in top administrative and STEM roles.
