Santos Overcomes 19-Second Setback to Reach Copa Sudamericana Last 16

Santos recovered from conceding just 19 seconds into the match to beat Venezuela's Universidad Central 4-2 in the second leg of their Copa Sudamericana playoff, securing an 8-3 aggregate victory and a place in the tournament's last 16.

The Brazilian club will face Ecuador's Macará in the next round as it continues its bid for the continental title.

Santos suffered an early defensive lapse at Vila Belmiro Stadium when defender Adonis Frías misplaced a back pass. Samuel Sosa intercepted the ball and calmly chipped goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão to give Universidad Central a 1-0 lead after only 19 seconds.

The hosts responded before halftime, with Bolivian midfielder Miguelito scoring a solo goal to level the match at 1-1.

After resting several key players in the first half, Santos increased the tempo following the break with a series of substitutions.

Gabriel Barbosa put Santos ahead 2-1 after finishing a pass from Gabriel Bontempo. In the 65th minute, Gabriel Menino made it 3-1 by converting the rebound after Barbosa's shot struck the crossbar.

Universidad Central pulled one back in the 72nd minute through Gonzalo Montes to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, Rony sealed the victory late in the match, finishing another assist from Bontempo to make it 4-2.

Neymar, who started the game on the bench, came on in the second half but had a limited impact. The veteran forward did not score or provide an assist as Santos comfortably secured its place in the knockout stage.
