The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Litton Das as the new ODI captain replacing Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Litton already leads the T20I squad will now captain Bangladesh across both white-ball formats. Towhid Hridoy has been named ODI vice-captain, while Najmul Hossain Shanto will remain the Test captain.

BCB President Tamim Iqbal announced the decision following a board meeting in Mirpur on Wednesday. He explained that the board opted to formally split the leadership between red-ball and white-ball formats to streamline team planning and mitigate the challenges of managing fast-bowler rotations under multiple captains.

Miraz took over the ODI captaincy in June 2025. Under his leadership, Bangladesh won 10 of their 24 ODIs securing notable series victories against the West Indies, Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia. However, his tenure concluded shortly after a recent 2-1 series defeat in Zimbabwe.

Tamim clarified that the leadership change was a strategic move to help the all-rounder regain his peak individual form, rather than a reflection of his captaincy.

"Miraz has been an excellent captain, but we feel Bangladesh needs more from him as a cricketer," Tamim said. "We want him to focus fully on getting back to his best standard particularly with the bat."

Tamim confirmed that the decision was made with Miraz's mutual understanding. Moving forward, rather than scrutinizing the team over the Zimbabwe loss, the BCB has directed the players and coaching staff to outline a concrete six-month strategic plan to get Bangladesh back on a winning track.
