Headmaster Molina Rani Goswami of Karuakathi Primary School in Nalchiti was locked up by locals accusing her of corruption.

A headmaster of a government primary school in Nalchiti, Jhalakathi, was locked up in the school room by agitated locals on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The incident involved Molina Rani Goswami, the headmaster of Karuakathi Government Primary School in Magar Union.

The locals accused Headmaster Goswami of engaging in various irregularities, corruption, and arbitrary behavior, including extreme misbehavior towards teachers, students, and guardians, ever since she joined the school. They claimed they had previously formed a human chain demanding her removal and had complained to various departments, but no action was taken.

The immediate trigger for the blockade was an exam scheduled for Monday, December 8. The question papers were kept in the headmaster's cupboard, but she failed to show up for school that day, leading to the cancellation of the exam. This greatly increased the anger of the parents and locals. When the headmaster arrived at the school on Tuesday, the angry crowd locked her inside her room.

Headmaster Goswami called the emergency services (999), and upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and rescued her. The Upazila Primary Education Officer (UPEO), Shirin Akhter, also went to the school to talk to the locals and parents and brought the situation under control.

Accused headmaster Molina Rani Goswami denied all allegations of corruption and incivility, instead claiming that the blockade was a protest by some locals against her stance on the occupation of a government pond.

UPEO Shirin Akhter confirmed the police rescued the headmaster before her arrival. She noted that the headmaster had an absence on Monday due to a relative's death. Ms. Akhter stated that the various complaints made by the locals and parents will be investigated, and necessary legal action will be taken.

Nalchiti Police Station OC (Investigation) Md. Ashraf Ali confirmed that the police freed the teacher and normalized the situation after receiving the call via Triple Nine.
