In a historic moment for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman visited the party’s central headquarters at Naya Paltan on Monday, marking his first appearance there in over 15 years.
Addressing a massive wave of supporters from the office balcony, Tarique called for a unified national effort to "rebuild the country." The visit follows his recent return from a 17-year exile in London on December 25.
Having officially resumed office work at the Gulshan chairperson's office just a day prior, his arrival at Naya Paltan signaled a full-scale return to active domestic leadership.
Tarique’s speech focused on grassroots contribution and national restoration. He urged activists to contribute to the country’s progress from their respective positions, emphasizing that even "small tasks" and individual efforts are crucial for building a stronger nation.
Demonstrating a shift toward civic responsibility, he requested the gathered throngs to clear the roads immediately after the event to ensure citizens could move without suffering from traffic congestion.
He asked the nation to pray for the recovery of his mother and BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia.
Tarique’s motorcade reached the headquarters at 4:05 PM, navigating through a sea of cheering supporters who had gathered hours in advance. He was received by senior leaders, including Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The atmosphere was electric, with activists chanting slogans as Tarique waved from the vehicle and the balcony, cementing his physical presence at the heart of the party's operations.
Tarique Rahman's sequence of office visits—first Gulshan and now Naya Paltan—indicates a rapid consolidation of party activities as the BNP prepares for the upcoming political transition and the February 2026 elections.
