Former Lt Gen (retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury was arrested early Tuesday from his residence in Baridhara DOHS, Dhaka, by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He faces charges in at least five cases, including a murder case in Feni, and is accused in human trafficking allegations abroad. Law enforcement said an arrest warrant issued in a July Movement case in Feni was also a basis for his detention.
Masud Uddin, a former General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the army’s 9th Division, played a prominent role during the 1/11 caretaker government period. He later served as Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Australia, joined the Jatiyo Party, and was elected MP from Feni-3 in 2018.
Police will decide under which case he will be formally shown arrested after completing scrutiny, with further legal action expected.
