The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced a preliminary list of 125 candidates for the upcoming 13th national election. The list was read out by Member Secretary Akhtar Hossen at a press briefing held at the party's temporary office in Banglamotor, Dhaka, on the morning of December 10.
Key Nominations of Senior Leaders: Nahid Islam (NCP Convener): Dhaka-11, Akhtar Hossen (Member Secretary): Rangpur-4, Nasiruddin Patwary (Chief Coordinator): Dhaka-18, Sarjis Alam (Chief Organiser, North): Panchagarh-1, Hasnat Abdullah (Chief Organiser, South): Cumilla-4, Tasnim Jara (Senior Joint Member Secretary): Dhaka-9, Abdul Hannan Masud (Senior Joint Chief Coordinator): Noakhali-6
The 125 nominations constitute the "first phase." The second phase will focus on nominating "rebels" from the BNP and Jamaat who favor reforms, as well as individuals sidelined by their own parties due to financial influence but who maintain public credibility.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam stated that candidates will be nominated from minority communities and injured/martyred families in proportion to their representation. He also stressed that the process is open, and nominations will be canceled if allegations of extortion, crime, or links to fascism surface.
Nahid Islam clarified that the NCP is not contesting to gain power. Instead, their 300 candidates will act as a "force for the 'Yes' side in the referendum," urging voters to speak in favor of 'Yes' rather than asking for votes for the party's 'Shapla Koli' symbol.
Election Steering Committee Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Jara noted that the party sold more than 1,500 nomination forms. The final list aims for "renewal" in politics, stating, "We do not want godfathers, criminals, extortionists, or corrupt individuals in politics."
