PM Orders Strict Action on Medical Negligence and Ensure Rural Healthcare

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed health authorities to ensure accessible and high-quality medical services for marginalized citizens also warning of strict disciplinary action against doctors neglecting their duties.

During a landmark meeting with Health Ministry officials at the Secretariat on Monday the first such visit by a sitting Prime Minister. He emphasized transforming government hospitals into trusted healthcare destinations.

Addressing reports of inadequate upazila-level care Prime Minister ordered immediate measures to curb medical negligence. "Everyone should receive treatment at government hospitals easily and without suffering" he stated, stressing the need for uninterrupted medicine supplies and reliable rural healthcare.

To address the growing need for kidney care Tarique Rahman announced plans to expand district hospital dialysis centers from 10 to 50 beds. Furthermore, dialysis units will be established in every upazila across the country over the next three years. He instructed officials to immediately secure the required skilled workforce and logistics to support this expansion.

The meeting also reviewed an initiative to upgrade upazila health complexes from 51 to 101 beds with Public Works Department engineers presenting the required infrastructure designs.

Briefing the Prime Minister on sector improvements over the past five months and officials acknowledged the fragile state of the healthcare system left by previous administrations and outlined ongoing recovery efforts.

The meeting was attended by the Health Minister, State Minister for Health and directors of major capital hospitals, according to Deputy Press Secretary Md. Suzauddhowla.
