Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced that the talent discovery programme ‘New Bud Sports’ will relaunch from Sylhet on April 30.
He made the announcement on Monday (March 30) while inaugurating a sports allowance programme and distributing sports cards and awards to international medal-winning athletes. The event was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The Prime Minister said ‘New Bud Sports’ was first launched in 1976 as a platform to identify talented children and adolescents across Bangladesh. The programme, once popular on Bangladesh Television (BTV), was discontinued for several years before being revived.
He said the programme will now expand nationwide with a new format to discover young sports talent.
Referring to the BNP’s 2026 election manifesto, Tarique Rahman said the party had pledged to establish sports as a profession if elected to power.
“We are now beginning to implement that commitment,” he said.
He added that sports are no longer just a form of entertainment or physical activity but are now widely recognised as a profession worldwide.
“Bangladesh will not be left behind,” he said.
BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir attended the event as a special guest. The programme was chaired by State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque.
