The government has launched a crackdown on the illegal hoarding and smuggling of fuel oil across the country. To bolster enforcement, the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources announced on Monday (March 30) a reward of up to Tk 1 lakh for accurate information leading to the recovery of diverted fuel.
The ministry noted that global market instability—fueled by tensions in the Middle East—has impacted local supply chains. Some unscrupulous traders are reportedly stockpiling imported oil to create artificial crises and sell at inflated prices, defying government-fixed rates.
While field administrations have already penalized several syndicates, the reward system aims to curb the rising trend of market manipulation. The government assured that the identity of informants will remain strictly confidential, and rewards will be processed through the respective District Administrators.
