A 16-year-old boy died after a fire razed two tin-shed houses in Bakhunda Purbapara village, under Faridpur Sadar upazila, late Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Tamim Mia, was the son of Rafiq Mia, an expatriate living in Dubai.
According to local sources, the fire broke out around 11:00 PM while Tamim was alone in the house. Other family members were attending a social event nearby. Although locals rescued Tamim and rushed him to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, the attending physician declared him dead on arrival.
Two units of the Faridpur Fire Service brought the blaze under control after a two-hour effort, ending at 1:15 AM.
The victim’s uncle, Shawkat Mia, alleged the fire was intentionally set due to a long-standing land dispute. "They threatened to kill us a few days ago, and we even filed a General Diary (GD) with the police," he claimed.
However, Faridpur Fire Service Station Officer Md. Nazrul Islam stated that preliminary findings suggest an electrical short circuit as the likely cause. The fire destroyed two houses, a motorcycle, electronics, and cash.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Azmir Hossain confirmed that the body has been sent for an autopsy. "We are investigating the family's allegations alongside the accidental fire report," he said.
