A delegation of Japanese investors has announced plans to invest an initial $1.2 billion in Bangladesh’s tourism and hospitality sector with unlocking major opportunities for foreign direct investment in the industry.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.
Welcoming the initiative and the Minister Millat assured the delegation of full government cooperation in facilitating their proposed projects through mutually beneficial public-private partnership (PPP) models.
"We are delighted by the interest shown by Japanese investors," Millat said also adding that the government will take prompt administrative steps once formal proposals are submitted.
Highlighting prime regional attractions like the Sundarbans, Cox's Bazar and the tea gardens of Sylhet, the minister directed the Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB) to immediately facilitate site visits for the delegation to evaluate prospective development locations.
Japanese representatives reaffirmed their commitment to establishing a long-term partnership in developing local hospitality facilities and sustainable tourism infrastructure.
