Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed criticized Bangladesh’s lack of game awareness and batting consistency following a heavy 99-run loss to Zimbabwe in the UAE tri-series opener on Saturday.
Bangladesh initially restricted Zimbabwe to 24-3 but a 150-run fourth-wicket partnership between Craig Ervine and Brendan Taylor helped Zimbabwe reach 271-8 in 50 overs. In response, Bangladesh began brightly through opener Tanzid Hasan before suffering a middle-order collapse with folding for just 172.
Addressing the media after the match Fast Bowler Taskin called the defeat a vital "reality check" for the squad.
"There is a noticeable lack of game awareness" Taskin said. "Everyone possesses the necessary skills, but as a team, we tend to collapse quickly under pressure. Target 272 was definitely chaseable on this pitch but we failed to build even a single solid partnership."
Taskin highlighted that while the bowling unit has shown consistency, the batters must take equal responsibility to fix recurring mistakes. He acknowledged the absence of key players including captain Litton Das and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, but refused to use it as an excuse, praising Zimbabwe for recovering effectively under pressure.
Bangladesh must now rectify their batting shortcomings quickly as they aim to bounce back in the remaining group fixture to qualify for the final.
