The body of eight-year-old Ariya was recovered on Monday afternoon, two days after she went missing while bathing in the Chitra River in Kalia Upazila, Narail.

Locals spotted the body floating near the Mahishkhola Ghat area around 3:30 pm. Ariya was the daughter of Abdullah Sheikh, an expatriate resident of Mahishkhola village in Panchgram Union.

The tragic incident began on Saturday afternoon when Ariya and another child, Rafia, drowned while bathing together. While Rafia’s body was recovered by locals later that day near Jadavpur Kheyaghat, Ariya remained missing.

Despite an extensive search operation by a specialist diving team from the Khulna Fire Service on Sunday, her whereabouts remained unknown until Monday. Both victims were students at Mahishkhola Government Primary School.

Md. Shamsuzzaman, Station Leader of the Narail District Fire Service, confirmed the recovery, marking a somber end to the two-day search.
