The Muksudpur Upazila administration in Gopalganj has launched a new monitoring system to restore discipline and transparency to local fuel distribution. Following a law and order meeting led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ashiq Kabir, "Tag Officers" have been assigned to oversee designated filling stations.
Upazila Social Services Officer Rakibul Hasan Shuvo has been appointed as the Tag Officer for the Muksudpur Filling Station. Since his appointment, Shuvo has been physically present at the station to supervise sales and prevent irregularities.
Administrative sources state the move aligns with government directives to ensure fair distribution and prevent hoarding. Currently, fuel is being sold to customers in organized queues. Under the new guidelines, motorcyclists with valid documents and helmets can purchase fuel worth up to 180 BDT or 200 BDT, while farmers can receive up to 20 liters of diesel for irrigation upon presenting slips from the Upazila Agriculture Office.
Despite the increased monitoring, local farmers report significant challenges. Many allege that despite having authorized slips, they are not receiving enough diesel to maintain their irrigation schedules, threatening crop yields.
Furthermore, some locals claim that while supply is strictly rationed during the day, transport vehicles are being prioritized for fuel at night. This perceived discrimination has led to growing frustration among the agricultural community. Stakeholders warn that if these distribution gaps are not addressed, it could lead to regional food shortages. Residents are now calling for more effective oversight to ensure farmers get the priority they need.
