


A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck Assam, India, early Monday morning (5 January), sending strong tremors across Sylhet and surrounding districts in northeastern Bangladesh.
According to the USGS, the quake occurred at 4:47 AM at a shallow depth of 10km, with its epicenter located near Dhing, Assam—approximately 76km from Guwahati.
While the proximity to the epicenter caused intense shaking in the Sylhet region, local authorities have confirmed no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage.
