Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the preparation of 100,000 trained volunteers to manage the aftermath of a major earthquake in Dhaka.
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu shared the information with reporters after meeting the Prime Minister at the Secretariat on Sunday (March 1).
The Prime Minister stressed the need for advance preparation to reduce potential damage from a powerful earthquake. She directed authorities to quickly identify playgrounds and educational institutions across Dhaka for use in rescue operations and temporary shelters.
She also instructed relevant ministries to launch public awareness campaigns, focusing on earthquake preparedness and immediate safety measures.
The minister said a draft action plan is being prepared. A high-level review meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, is scheduled for March 11. The final strategy for rescue and relief operations is expected to be approved at that meeting.
