


Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus marked the nation's 55th Victory Day by paying profound tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War.
The Chief Adviser placed a wreath at the altar of the National Memorial in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, at approximately 6:56 am today, December 16. Following the placement, he stood in solemn silence for a period, honouring the supreme sacrifice made by the martyrs during the Great War of Liberation.
The ceremony included a state salute presented by a smartly turned out contingent composed of personnel from the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force. Professor Yunus also signed the visitors’ book at the memorial.
The Chief Justice, Advisers of the interim government, Chiefs of the three services, Freedom Fighters, Diplomats, Various civil and military officials were also present at the occasion.
The nation is celebrating Victory Day with elaborate programmes, commemorating the day 55 years ago (December 16, 1971) when Bangladesh was established as an independent country. This independence came at the cost of the lives of three million martyrs and the honour of approximately two lakh women.
Various political parties, socio-political, educational, and cultural institutions have organized a series of programmes to celebrate and pay homage.
