A fugitive convict named Abdul Khalek (40), who was sentenced to life in a rape case in Bashkhali, Chittagong, has been arrested by Bashkhali Police Station.

At 3 am on Friday (October 31), a police team led by Banshchara Police Outpost In-Charge Police Inspector (retd) Md. Majnu Mia conducted a raid in the West Ilsha area of Baharchhara Union of the upazila and arrested the life sentence convict.

The arrested life sentence convict Md. Abdul Khalek is the son of the deceased Badruzzaman of Ratnapur village of Ward No. 3 of Baharchhara Union of Bashkhali Upazila.

Bashkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said, "Abdul Khalek was serving a life sentence in a case under the Prevention of Violence against Women and Children Act. After being absconding for a long time, the police arrested him in a raid late at night after receiving information that he was staying at his village house. He will be handed over to the court tomorrow."
