


A compensation check of Tk 4.25 lakh has been distributed among 9 farmers affected by wild elephants in various hilly areas of Baskhali upazila of Chattogram.
These checks were distributed among the affected farmers at a function organized by the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department, Chattogram, at the hall of Baskhali Ecopark on Saturday (November 29) afternoon.
The check distribution ceremony was presided over by Anisuzzaman Sheikh, Range Officer at Jaldi Wildlife Sanctuary. Abu Naser Mohammad Yasin Newaz, Divisional Forest Officer, Chattogram Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department, was the chief guest, while Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer Dipanbita Bhattacharya, Nur Jahan Milki, and Baskhali Ecopark Officer-in-Charge Israel Haque were special guests.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Divisional Forest Officer Abu Naser Mohammad Yasin Newaz said, 'The Forest Department is very sincere and active in elephant conservation under the government's instructions. Elephants come to the locality in search of food. Even if elephants damage your crops, you should not attack the elephants. The government will compensate your crops. Do not create obstacles in the movement of elephants. If necessary, you should take the cooperation of the officers in charge of the Forest Department.'
