A colorful rally and workers' gathering were held in Singra, Natore, on Friday to mark International Workers' Day. Organized by the Singra Upazila and Municipal Sammilit Sramik Oikya Parishad, the program began at 11:30 AM.
The rally paraded through the main roads of the municipality before concluding at the bus stand area, where the formal gathering took place.
Presided over by Singra Municipality BNP Convener Sakhawat Hossain Sakha, the event featured Natore-3 MP, Principal Anwarul Islam Anu, as the chief guest.
In his address, MP Anwarul Islam Anu emphasized the ethical treatment of labor, stating that wages must be paid "before a worker's sweat dries." He noted that no nation can progress without the vital contributions of laborers, whose hard work is embedded in the country's infrastructure, roads, and factories. He urged employers and workers to collaborate as partners in nation-building.
"May Day reminds us that real progress is only possible when the dignity of labor is protected," the MP added. "We must remain united to secure the rights of the working class."
Other speakers highlighted the historical significance of the day, recalling the 1886 Chicago Haymarket affair where workers sacrificed their lives demanding an eight-hour workday and fair conditions. This global movement eventually led to the international recognition of May 1 as a day for workers' rights.
Key speakers included Singra Upazila BNP Member Secretary Sharful Islam Bulbul, along with several local labor leaders.
