Police have successfully solved the murder mystery of seven-year-old Irene Akhter Bina, also known as Kabita, following a swift investigation in the Gerda Union of Faridpur Kotwali. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the crime.
The details were disclosed during a press briefing held at the Kotwali Police Station at 11:30 AM on Friday.
Following the discovery of the child’s body, a joint operation by the Kotwali Police and the District Branch (DB) of police utilized information technology and local intelligence to track down the suspects. The arrested individuals are Israfil Mridha (24), Sheikh Amin (19), Nasima Begum (45)
Irene, a student at Bokail Government Primary School, went missing on the evening of April 24 after leaving her home. Her father, Baka Mia Biswas, filed a General Diary (GD) the following day. Tragically, on the morning of April 30, her decomposed body was recovered from a banana plantation in the Bakhunda area.
A formal murder case (Case No. 84) was filed at Kotwali Police Station under sections 302, 201, and 34 of the Penal Code.
During primary interrogation, the prime suspect, Israfil Mridha, reportedly confessed to luring the child to an abandoned tin-shed building with the promise of chocolates. He attempted to assault her, but when the child resisted, he strangled her to death out of fear that she would expose him to her family.
To hide the crime, the body was initially hidden in a septic tank. According to police, Nasima Begum later discovered the body and instructed her sons, Sheikh Amin and Rahman, to move it. They transported the body in a plastic drum to a banana plantation near the Bakhunda Community Clinic, where it was eventually found.
The briefing was attended by Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Mohammad Ajmir Hossain, Kotwali Police Station OC Mahmudul Hasan, and other senior officials.
